InverseBetaRegularized

The inverse of the regularized incomplete beta Ix(a,b)I_x(a, b) in xx: the Beta-distribution quantile. Solved the same way as InverseGammaRegularized — a safeguarded Newton's method against native BetaRegularized.

Domain: Special functions

Details
  • Ix(1,1)=xI_x(1, 1) = x is its own inverse, and Ix(a,1)=xaI_x(a, 1) = x^a inverts to s1/as^{1/a} — both exact, symbolic ss (and aa) included.
  • Otherwise: a safeguarded Newton's method against BetaRegularized(x, a, b), using the Beta density xa−1(1−x)b−1/B(a,b)x^{a-1}(1-x)^{b-1}/B(a,b) (in log space) as the derivative; checked against wolframscript to 20 digits.
